Erasmus +

  Erasmus+ General Information

Erasmus+ is the EU Programme in the fields of education, training, youth and sport . Education, training, youth and sport can make a major contribution to help tackle socio-economic changes, the key challenges that Europe will be facing until the end of the decade and to support the implementation of the European policy agenda for growth, jobs, equity and social inclusion.

Too many young people leave school prematurely running a high risk of being unemployed and socially marginalized. The same risk threatens many adults with low skills. Technologies are changing the way in which society operates, and there is a need to ensure the best use is made of them. EU businesses need to become more competitive through talent and innovation. Europe needs more cohesive and inclusive societies which allow citizens to play an active role in democratic life. Education and youth work are key to promote common European values, foster social integration, enhance intercultural understanding and a sense of belonging to a community, and to prevent violent radicalization.

Erasmus+ is an effective instrument to promote the inclusion of people with disadvantaged backgrounds, including newly arrived migrants. Another challenge relates to the development of social capital among young people, the empowerment of young people and their ability to participate actively in society, in line with the provisions of the Lisbon Treaty to “encourage the participation of young people in democratic life in Europe”. This issue can also be targeted through non-formal learning activities, which aim at enhancing the skills and competences of young people as well as their active citizenship. Moreover, there is a need to provide youth organizations and youth workers with training and cooperation opportunities, to develop their professionalism and the European dimension of youth work. Well-performing education and training systems and youth policies provide people with the skills required by the labor market and the economy, while allowing them to play an active role in society and achieve personal fulfilment. Reforms in education, training and youth can strengthen progress towards these goals, on the basis of a shared vision between policy makers and stakeholders, sound evidence and cooperation across different fields and levels.

The Erasmus+ Programme is designed to support Programme Countries’ efforts to efficiently use the potential of Europe’s talent and social assets in a lifelong learning perspective, linking support to formal, non-formal and informal learning throughout the education, training and youth fields. The Programme also enhances the opportunities for cooperation and mobility with Partner Countries, notably in the fields of higher education and youth.

In order to achieve its objectives, the Erasmus+ Programme implements the following Actions:

KEY ACTION 1 – MOBILITY OF INDIVIDUALS

KEY ACTION 2 – COOPERATION FOR INNOVATION AND THE EXCHANGE OF GOOD PRACTICES

It will develop and maintain partner institutional cooperation, offering advisory services for students and staff. Atlantis College has 2 members on the International Service Team: The Director of IMO and the Student Welfare and Activities Coordinator (SWAC).

Each exchange agreement will be monitored and developed in collaboration with the departmental programme coordinator in order to secure academic quality.

The office is acting at central level and deals with strategic, planning but also administrative tasks related to mobility and internationalization. The communication with other departments, is realized using online communication (e-mails, social networks), written communication (reports, administrative documents, contracts) and personal counseling sessions.

At the end of the academic year mobility-activities will be audited through the Institutions' central quality assurance audit system. Mobility possibilities will be communicated through the Institutions' webpage and student intranet. Also, the office will arrange international days and mobility sessions in collaboration with the National LLP agency. The Office team will organize information and orientation sessions for students and staff. The SWAC is the contact person with the student union and housing services.

Fundamental Principles

In estimating students’ workload, we consider the total time needed by students in order to achieve the desired learning outcomes. Students are awarded ECTS credits only when appropriate assessment has shown that they have achieved the required learning outcomes for a component of a programme or for the qualification.

An average workload of a full-time study year is 60 ECTS, the minimum credits per semester system is 30 ECTS) as well as the system of pre-defined courses that the student must succeed in with the minimum grade, they must achieve in each lesson depending on the accredited study program.

The European credits constitute the workload of a full-time student during each semester (30 ECTS per semester). The workload of a full-time study program rises from about 1500 to 1800 hours of workload per student per year and in these cases one credit unit ECTS equals to about 25-30 hours of workload. At Atlantis College 1 ECTS corresponds to 25 hours of workload. In our Institution, we have used the Tuning method to allocate credits to the different course units.

The students receive ECTS credit units after successfully completing the required work and assessment of the learning outcomes (the total of the knowledge, abilities and skills the students must possess, understand or be in a position to undertake after the successful completion of the specific study program.

The workload of each student within the ECTS includes the required time for the completion of a specific course which constitutes of seminars, independent study, assignment preparation, exams, practice, etc. The Institution will also issue a Diploma Supplement (DS) to accompany every degree successfully completed by a student.

The Institution will monitor the student progress and grant recognition of the ECTS credits for the successfully completed learning outcomes. For the purpose of recognition of qualifications, the programme learning outcomes are a key factor and the number of ECTS.  In ECTS the following supporting documents help facilitate credit recognition for the purpose of mobility:
